Whole Brain® Thinking

Whole Brain® Thinking, developed by Ned Herrmann, the same creator as HBDI®, emphasizes the use of all four brain quadrants. With Whole Brain® Thinking, we are able to engage in comprehensive thinking and utilize skills from all four quadrants. When communicating using Whole Brain® Thinking, we tend to understand and integrate ideas or information more thoroughly.

The Whole Brain ®Thinking concept emphasizes the growth and development of both sides of the brain to utilize all the brain's resources for thinking. This promotes problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and teamwork ability. Furthermore, developing Whole Brain ®Thinking can facilitate efficient and effective learning and application, enabling organizations and employees to achieve deep learning and expertise in application.

HBDI® (Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument)

HBDI® is an assessment tool used to measure an individual's thinking and working styles through a set of 120 psychological questions.  The results obtained from HBDI® indicate the individual's abilities and inclinations in different thinking styles. Employing HBDI® helps us understand and communicate with people who have different thinking styles more effectively, as we can adjust our communication to resonate with their thinking patterns.

HBDI® evaluates an individual's propensity to use all four brain quadrants, namely:

  1. Upper Left Brain: Analytical thinking, fact-based, logical reasoning.

  2. Lower Left Brain: Planning, sequencing, organizing, structured tasks.

  3. Lower Right Brain: Interpersonal skills, communication, collaborative tendencies.

  4. Upper Right Brain: Intuition, imagination, synthesis.

HBDI® does not depend on the interpretation of results from a facilitator, avoiding biases and inclinations, making the centralized result interpretation extremely beneficial for organizations. Facilitators provide instructions on reading and applying the results, ensuring the system is employed effectively and objectively.

Benefits of Whole Brain® Thinking and HBDI® in Communication

Whole Brain® Thinking and HBDI® offer benefits for communication within teams and with clients. By leveraging knowledge and understanding of different thinking process concepts, effective communication can be achieved. Understanding our own thinking processes and how to use them effectively allows us to adapt our communication to different individuals or groups more efficiently. Moreover, these concepts can be applied to team collaboration, creating a balance in the utilization of team members' thinking, fostering a balanced approach to idea generation and problem-solving, and promoting increased flexibility.
